Whisky - On The Rocks

On the KegWorks website I saw these stones that will keep your drink cold without watering it down. This is very good for us who enjoy sipping on our whisky. At KegWorks you can buy 9 of these stones for $19.95. You just throw those in your freezer for a few hours and you’re good to go. These rocks are made out of soapstone and are made in the great USofA. I am thinking about purchasing some of these along with a bunch of other great things that I saw on their website.

PreCentral.net - What is needed in next OS update

August 22, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Tech

We know that webOS and the Palm Pre are 1.0 1.1 products, so we’re going to cut you some slack for now. But that slack is starting to run out, and looking at the competition there are some areas where I think you could improve the Pre to both catch up to and leap frog over iPhone and BlackBerry and Android. So here’s what I’d like to see in the way of software updates before that slack runs out and the real complaining starts.

My list is after the break, and it’s by no means comprehensive. Feel free to sound off in the comments if there’s something you think should be added in!

Oh, and Palm, this isn’t an ultimatum or anything. It’s a wishlist. Of stuff I want. So consider it a shopping list, and you’re the grocery store. Some things we can do without, but others are staple items that we need to get through the week, and if you don’t have it, we might have to go across town to the other grocery to get it. After a while, that can get kind of old and we might consider just going to the other store. We don’t want to, as it’s simply not as nice, but they have a lot of what we need.

Alert Tones. I can only take so much of “da-ding” before I lose my mind wondering if it’s an email or a text message or a low battery alert or… we need the option to change these tones. And not just “pick a new alert tone,” no, the ability to pick different tones for different alerts. And like we can assign specific ringtones to individual callers, the option to assign a tone to an email account (X for Gmail, Y for Exchange, etc) would be great. To a specific contact, even better.

App Catalog. As your posting of the Mojo SDK and anticipated expansion of the App Catalog would seem to indicate, you’re on your way to getting a full-on developer community going. That’s all well and good, but your application store needs some serious work. First off is speed: while once up it works just fine, the load time is interminably long for something that is more or less just a specialized web browser. Second is content: we seriously need more applications. Yes there’s side-loading homebrew fun, but for 90% of your users the App Catalog is going to be their primary source of apps.

Palm Pre Homebrew - FileCoaster

August 12, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Tech

filecoasterYesterday I tried to install some homebrew applications onto my Palm Pre, and I succeeded. The installation process is extremely easy and anyone should be able to do it. I found the instructions on http://www.precentral.net/how-to-install-homebrew-appsand once you have FileCoaster installed onto your Pre, it is very easy to search through the 100+ homebrew applications and download and install. Yesterday there were 104 homebrew applications available and today there are 107 applications available. The addition of three applications in one day, I think, is incredible. When installing this program, I did not think that there were going to be as many applications as there are, but I’m certainly glad there are. The applications include games such as checkers and tetris, a golf pin finder, stopwatches/timers, various GPS applications, and much more. There is also an application so you don’t have to type the Konami code (upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart) every time you want to turn dev-mode on or off; I find this very useful. I would recommend this for any Palm Pre user, and thus far, I have enjoyed it. With FileCoaster, you can also enter the URL of a homebrew application to download if it isn’t in the FileCoaster list.

Michael Jackson: Dangerous….to children

August 08, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Opinion, ShowBiz

MJ MugshotI will admit, in the early 90’s I did have a Michael Jackson tape, but I do not like the guy. Michael Jackson was a great musician and hands down had some of the best dance moves out there, but that doesn’t make up for what he did (or didn’t do, according to some).  I don’t know how the retard was let off clean without any charges, and how after the cases people would still allow their children to be around that freak.  If he had been put in jail for his wrongdoings, he would probably still be alive due to solitary confinement.

One great upside of his death is that, in my opinion, there is one less pedophile on this planet.  I wish all pedophiles slow and painful deaths.

Mangregation Presents: Around the Net – The first edition

Every once in a while I will share some random interesting sites that I have come across on the web. To start this off, I would like to share a few sites that I visit on a regular basis.

http://gregghenson.typepad.com – A blog from a former Detroit area radio personality. I greatly enjoyed his shows while they were on the air in Detroit. His blog post topics can vary from politics, personal life, sports, entertainment, Detroit radio, and others.

http://www.anncoulter.com – Ann Coulter is a must for anyone who enjoys reading about politics; especially Conservatives. Every Wednesday or Thursday there is a new article written by Ann Coulter on her website, and every time I read it, I enjoy it.

http://www.failblog.org– I’m sure quite a few of you have come across FailBlog a few times in your adventures on the internet. I enjoy seeing how stupid people can be, and I’m glad that it’s not me.

Obama Saving Jobs? Nope

July 22, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Politics

obamanationI am glad to say that I am not one of those who voted for Barack Hussein Obama; I AM A PROUD CONSERVATIVE.  I’m sure many of you have heard this over and over again elsewhere, but I believe everyone should NOT have the right to vote just because they are 18.  I wish there was some other types of requirements that you had to pass in order to help make such an important decision.  I can’t believe that there are so many people out there whould could have voted for this guy.  I am fairly young; the ‘08 election was only the second presidential election that I have been able to vote in, but before both of these elections I had done much research by reading points of views from both sides, and not watching the cultic media.

A great book that I have read is “The Obamanation - Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality”.  If you are interested in learning more about Obama, I would suggest this book.

Take a look at this video of Obama talking about saving jobs; while watching it, I didn’t know whether to laugh or punch a liberal.  I found this video on http://gregghenson.typepad.com.

Palm Pre Day 3 Review - Touchstone

July 20, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Tech

palmpretouchstoneIf you read my last post, you would know that I had purchased a Palm Pre this past Friday.  I would like to let you how I feel about the phone after only 3 days; there are mostly good things and very little bad.

Just so you know, my last phone was the Palm Treo 700wx.  Compared to my old phone the Pre wins hands down in all categories but one.  The battery life of the Palm Pre isn’t too great; part of me thinking this I’m sure has to do with me being spoiled by my 3-5 days I could go without having to charge my Treo.  The upside about the battery is that this phone seems to charge extremely fast, at least compared to my Treo.  There are also a couple extended life replacement batteries that are available for the Pre; one of which is almost double that of the stock Pre battery, costing around $50.

The Palm Pre hasn’t been out on the market too long, but the current applications that are available, are very nice to have; you can get applications for MLB scores and stats, GPS, movie showtimes, restaurant reviews, internet radio, and much more.  Once more third-party applications start flying in, this phone will be even better.

There is a new Palm Pre charger called the Touchstone which does not require you to plug it into your Palm Pre, you just set it on and it charges.  I have 2 of them on order and should be arriving within the next day or two.

Once I get my new charges, I will have two chargers at home, one at work, and one in my car; this way wherever I am, I will be able to throw my phone on a charger and never have to worry about the one problem with the Palm Pre that I have ran across thus far.

Quest for a Smartphone - Complete - Palm Pre

July 17, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Tech

palmpreToday I went to the Sprint store and purchased a new smartphone.  I ended up settling with the Palm Pre.  I chose to stay loyal to Palm, well at least for now.  I didn’t really do any research on the Palm Pre before I bought it, but after buying it I read quite a bit about it and it seems comparable, if not better than the iPhone.  Compared to my Treo, the keyboard on the Pre seems slightly more cramped and the buttons aren’t raised as much, but it won’t take too long to get used to.

The web browser on the Pre is unbelieveable (at least from what I’ve been used to); you view real webpages and navigate with your fingers similar to the iPhone, from what I’ve seen.  The Pre, much like the iPhone has the rotating screen depending on which way you tilt your phone.

One other little thing I have noticed with the Pre is that the screen turns black immedately when you put it up to your ear, and when you pull it away from your face, the screen turns back on; there seems to be some type of light sensor by the earpiece to help save on the battery life.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro

July 16, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Cars

2010camaroBack in November 2008 I purchased a 2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ with everything imaginable, costing me just under $30,000; the only way I would have had to pay more is if I got the hybrid version, but I refuse to get a hybrid.  I’ve had no regrets at all with that purchase until now; now I want the 2010 Chevy Camaro.  The Camaros start at around $23,000, but of course anyone who gets the base model shouldn’t get one.  You could get a fairly descent Camaro package for what I paid for my Malibu.  The 2010 Camaro to me is perfect for that remake of the first generation Camaro.

Quest for a New Smartphone

July 15, 2009 :: Posted by - Josh :: Category - Tech

Treo700wxI am currently on a mission trying to find a new phone; I currently have the Palm Treo 700wx, and have had it for over a year and a half.  My Treo has Windows Mobile on it which benefits me greatly by having Word and Excel everywhere I go.

I have been looking at different phones and reviews online and I have no idea whether or not I am going to stick with the same type of phone or go to Blackberry.  With the Blackberry I can see the benefit of having your email readily available for use at anytime, but I’m not sure if that is enough to sway me to leave behind Word and Excel.

If there is anyone out there that has any suggestions or information that could help me choose which way to go; please drop a comment and help me out.
